Abstract

The high adoption rate of intelligent learning technologies is transforming pedagogical practices, academic support and institutional practices in higher education. In this paper, we consider current evidence on the use and academic impacts of generative and adaptive artificial intelligence systems. We have explored smart learning tools like DeepSeek, ChatGPT, Gemini, and similar learning applications. The study was a review of the literature published in 2020-25, and the identification of sources was done with the help of Scopus and Web of Science. The review suggests that smart learning systems can lead to enhancements in personalized learning journeys, formative evaluation provision, and robotic academic services. Some benefits that are reported are improved engagement of learners, improved access to learning resources and decreased administrative workload. Other challenges such as data governance, model transparency, academic integrity, and algorithmic fairness are also found in literature as persistent. The three key aspects have been mentioned, such as institutional readiness, faculty digital competence, and governance structures, which are instrumental in effective adoption. The research demonstrates the significance of natural and artificial intelligence harmonious collaboration, ethical implementation models, and evidence-supported integration patterns. The results justify the necessity of subsequent empirical studies that focus on longitudinal learning results, cross disciplinary adoption behavior, and organizational consequences of intelligent learning system in different contexts of higher education.
