Smart water pipeline monitoring systems, powered by the Internet of Things (IoT), have transformed how water distribution networks are managed through real-time data collection and remote control. However, integrating IoT introduces several security vulnerabilities that can threaten data integrity, confidentiality, and system reliability. This paper investigates key security challenges in IoT-based water pipeline monitoring systems, such as data breaches, device tampering, insecure communication protocols, and denial-of-service attacks. A thorough review of recent research is presented to identify common attack methods and their countermeasures. Additionally, a layered security framework is proposed, incorporating lightweight encryption, authentication mechanisms, intrusion detection, and secure communication channels to strengthen system resilience. The results indicate that the proposed security framework can greatly reduce risks of data manipulation and unauthorized access while maintaining low power consumption and computational demands suitable for embedded IoT devices.
