The IoT area has faced critical issues in terms of data security and privacy due to the growing popularity of smart devices. Past security models and frameworks have not found satisfactory security solutions for controlling the flow of data through billions of interconnected devices. This study aims to determine whether the blockchain can be used to solve the problem of privacy in IoT. The first goal is to put forward a long-lived, safe, and compliant blockchain-based privacy model for IoT. Also, the study assesses the generalisability of the proposed framework across multiple IoT domains. A combination of IoT network monitoring, simulation, and survey questions directed to experts make up the research approach. The research first started with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to find out the existing gaps in the current privacy solutions. The hypothesis that the blockchain model minimizes privacy violations was tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), paired t-test, correlation, and regression tests. The outcome was potential reductions in privacy breaches as examined; ANOVA highlighted the presence of features a difference in the aspects of privacy breaches before blockchain implementation (p = 0.032) while paired t-tests demonstrated enhancements after implementation (p < 0.001). Additionally, the research analysis discovered that scalability had an impact on latency, and performance and privacy are mutually exclusive. It is found with much certainty that blockchain has the potential to bring innovation across various industries such as healthcare, smart cities, and industrial IoT. It reasserts the themes of systematicity in privacy and provides proof that blockchain is capable of disrupting the protective framework in IoT systems. The study lays the foundation upon which future research can build, offering insights into the use of blockchain for improving IoT security.
