Two disruptive technologies — quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI) — are coming together at a time when organisations around the world are rapidly rolling out digital transformation projects to surmount a host of cyber security challenges. In this paper, the authors combine the principles of NIST's post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standardization process (FIPS 203, 204, and 205), the concepts of artificial intelligence in threat detection architectures, and the zero-trust security model to present a unified approach to post-quantum-secure digital transformation. It integrates some lattice-based post-quantum cryptographic control plane functions (key encapsulation and digital signatures) with an AI-driven detection and response plane, managed by a zero-trust policy engine and a crypto-agility management service. The paper argues that it is not only about the strength of the cryptographic algorithms themselves, but also about crypto agility, regular AI-powered tracking and governance of the whole digital transformation stack. Policy implications, CISO suggestions and research directions are explored, as are limitations.
