Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) has the power to completely change how higher education is delivered. IoT-enabled devices offer unique potential to increase student engagement and boost academic results. These tools can be incorporated into the classroom environment to provide real-time feedback to teachers and students, enhancing a more dynamic and interactive learning environment. Additionally, IoT-based attendance systems like those that use RFID can increase student accountability and engagement, which will ultimately lead to higher academic achievement. The proposed research aimed to explore the effects of IoT, in particular RFID-based attendance systems, on university students' academic achievements and analyze how it impacted their performance. In this study, two groups of students were surveyed, one group using a non-RFID based attendance system and the other group using an RFID-based attendance system. The survey consisted of 9 questions related to the perception of using IoT-based RFID attendance systems, and 10 questions related to RFID based attendance. The results of the survey revealed that the students in the RFID-based group had a more positive perception of the technology compared to the non-RFID based group. The notable outcomes among the survey were the average values related to question 1 (perception of ease of use) was 3.48 in the RFID-based group and 3.32 in the non-RFID based group. The results of the study indicate that the use of IoT-based RFID attendance systems can have a positive impact on students' academic performance. The technology can improve the ease of tracking attendance, reduce administrative workload, and provide more accurate and reliable attendance records.
