Abstract

Hand gestures, a vital non-verbal mode of communication, rely on the bending of fingers to convey messages. To reduce barriers and enhance confidence among individuals who use such gestures, several technologies have emerged to bridge the gap between those with and without disabilities. Our project aims to develop a cost- effective electronic hand for gesture recognition, utilizing flex sensors and an ESP32 microcontroller. Flex sensors operate by detecting changes in internal resistance, thereby capturing the angle formed by the user's fingers. By combining various finger movements, unique gestures are formed, which can then be interpreted into signals and presented as text on a screen or conveyed audibly through a speaker. This system facilitates the recognition of human sign language, empowering machines to perform tasks or identify words based on hand gestures and respond accordingly.
