Abstract

The present study aims to examine the role of influencer culture in the reconstruction of social identity and its impact on community values in the era of social media. Social media platforms have become powerful spaces where influencers shape opinions, lifestyles, attitudes, and patterns of social interaction. This study explores how continuous exposure to influencer content affects youth identity, self perception, and sense of belonging within their communities. A quantitative research design was adopted for this study. The sample consisted of 300 university students from public and private universities in Karachi. Respondents were selected through stratified random sampling to ensure representation of gender and socio economic background. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire focusing on identity perception, social comparison, community engagement, and value orientation. The findings indicate that influencer culture significantly affects identity construction among youth. A large proportion of respondents reported that social media influences their lifestyle choices, communication style, and future aspirations. The study also found that while social media enhances digital connectivity and community participation, it simultaneously increases comparison pressure and weakens traditional community interaction patterns. The study concludes that influencer culture plays a critical role in shaping modern identity and redefining community structures. It is recommended that educational institutions introduce digital literacy programs to promote critical thinking regarding online content. Parents and teachers should guide youth toward balanced social media use. Further research is recommended to explore long term psychological and social impacts of influencer driven content.
