Abstract

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and sudden cardiac death (SCD) have become a public health crisis in young athletes, especially in the game of cricket in Pakistan. This research paper aims to review the recent tragic events in Pakistan, review the literature from around the world and region as well as to explore local factors affecting cardiac risk in young athletes. It emphasizes the importance of congenital heart disease that remains undiagnosed, screening that needs to be improved and the added strain of hard play placed on players during a game. The study is conducted through a systematic literature review, the analysis of cases through the lens of a retrospective approach, and statistical modeling with SPSS (independent samples t-tests and multiple linear regression), resulting in evidence-based recommendations for prevention. The enlarged analysis highlights the complex interaction of genetic, environmental and systemic factors, urging immediate reforms in the sports environment in South Asia.
