Power losses in electrical distribution systems represent a significant challenge for power utilities, leading to reduced efficiency, increased operational costs, and compromised voltage stability. These losses primarily occur due to resistive elements in distribution lines, reactive power imbalances, and suboptimal network configurations. With the growing demand for electricity and the increasing integration of distributed energy resources, there is a critical need for effective strategies to minimize power losses and enhance system performance. This study investigates the application of advanced optimization techniques for power loss reduction in electrical distribution systems. The research focuses on identifying optimal solutions for network reconfiguration, capacitor placement, and load balancing to improve energy efficiency. Traditional analytical methods are compared with modern metaheuristic approaches to evaluate their effectiveness in handling complex, nonlinear system characteristics. Several optimization algorithms, including Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Differential Evolution (DE), are applied to standard distribution test systems to determine optimal operating conditions. These techniques are selected due to their ability to explore large search spaces and provide high-quality solutions within reasonable computational time. The objective functions are formulated to minimize real power losses while maintaining acceptable voltage profiles and system constraints. Simulation-based analysis is conducted using computational tools such as MATLAB/Simulink to validate the performance of the proposed optimization strategies. Key performance indicators, including power loss reduction, voltage deviation, and convergence speed, are used to assess the effectiveness of each technique. The results provide a comprehensive evaluation of optimization methods and highlight their potential in improving the operational efficiency of modern electrical distribution networks.
